LIVE UPDATES: Slovak Economy Minister Says Country Will Pay in Rubles for Russian Gas

On 24 February, Moscow launched a special military operation in Ukraine to "demilitarise and de-Nazify" the country following an appeal from the Donbass republics of Donetsk and Lugansk for help in defending themselves against Ukrainian forces.

Russian forces and Donbass militias continue to advance amid the special operation in Ukraine. In the meantime, Russia has delivered a new batch of humanitarian aid for the people of Donbass and Ukraine, sending 665 tonnes of food, building materials, and items to cover basic needs.

In total, Russia has delivered around 11,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid in the region amid the operation.

Johnson to Discuss Ukraine With Polish, German Leaders, Calling For More Sanctions

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Polish President Andrzej Duda in London this week to discuss the situation in Ukraine, Downing Street informs.

According to the British government, as a NATO member, the United Kingdom will continue supporting Kiev. Downing Street said that Johnson has named his international affairs adviser and Deputy National Security Adviser David Quarrey as the UK's new permanent representative to NATO.

The Times said on Monday that Scholz is expected to meet with Johnson in London on Friday and that the prime minister is expected to urge the German chancellor to boost anti-Russia sanctions and to intensify diplomatic, economic, and military pressure on Russia.

Turkish Military Taking Every Precaution Against Mine Threat in Black Sea - Ministry

The Turkish Defence Ministry said on Sunday that a mine squadron and an elite military diving team are making every effort to deal with stray naval mines in the Black Sea.

"Our mine squadron command and our SAS teams, the elite unit of our naval forces, are taking every precaution against the mine threat that may occur in our seas… Mines are destroyed with great caution after they are detected and analysed", the ministry said on social media.

Russia said Ukraine laid over 400 mines at the entrance to northern Black Sea ports after Moscow launched its military operation. They broke off and drifted south toward the Bosphorus Strait, a key waterway in northwestern Turkey connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara.

Situation in Ukraine Threatens Welfare of Germans - Finance Minister

The situation in Ukraine will lead to lower standards of living for Germans, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said on Sunday.

"The events in Ukraine will make us all poorer, for example, because we have to pay more for energy imports. Even the state will not be able to stop this decline in prosperity. But you can mitigate the worst shocks, that's what we do", Lindner said in an interview with Bild.

According to Lindner, the authorities intend to support people and businesses that are at risk, but due to limited funds, support measures can only be temporary.

"In the long term, new foundations for well-being need to be laid", Lindner added.

Lindner also expressed concern about the economic development of Germany amid rising prices and a slowdown in economic growth.

Gazprom Continues Pumping Natural Gas to Europe Through Ukraine, Providing Over 100 Mln Cubic Metres

Russian energy giant Gazprom says it is meeting supply requests for natural gas from European buyers, providing more than 108 million cubic metres through Ukraine on Sunday.

"Gazprom is supplying Russian gas for transit through Ukraine as usual, based on requests from European consumers. That is 108.4 million cubic metres delivered on 3 April", a statement read.

Gazprom's contract with Ukraine caps the daily amount of gas traversing Russia's neighbour at around 109.6 million cubic metres a day, or 40 billion metres by the end of 2022.
