FIFA Ethics Committee Opens Proceedings Against Blatter, Platini
MOSCOW (Sputnik) The arrests of some 12 people are being made at the request of the United States on charges of racketeering, money laundering and fraud, according to law enforcement authorities, as quoted by The New York Times.

Officials report that FIFA President Joseph Blatter and FIFA Secretary Jerome Valcke will not be arrested during the operation.

In May, several high-ranking FIFA officials were arrested on a US federal corruption warrant. Although Blatter was not charged alongside other executives of the organization, he resigned on June 2, four days after he being elected for a fifth term as president.

In early October, the FIFA Ethics Committee temporarily suspended Blatter and UEFA President and FIFA Vice-President Michel Platini, as well as Valcke, for a period of 90 days during investigations.
