ATHENS (Sputnik) — Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias held talks with his Iraqi counterpart, Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York City on Sunday, focusing on the need for boosting economic, technical, military and cultural cooperation, the Greek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"Kotzias and Al-Jaafari discussed the latest international and regional developments, emphasizing issues of bilateral cooperation and underscoring the need for the economic, technical, military and cultural cooperation between the two countries to be promoted even further," the statement read.
Earlier, it was reported that Kotzias, who accompanied Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at the UN General Assembly, plans to hold a series of meetings with his counterparts, in particular the foreign ministers of the United States, Russia, Cyprus, Turkey, Egypt, Kosovo, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Argentina, Australia, Norway, as well as with a special adviser of the UN secretary-general on Cyprus and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation head.
