WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — President Barack Obama has directed his administration to take in up to 10,000 more Syrian refugees in the next fiscal year, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said during a press briefing on Thursday.
"The president has directed his team to scale up that number [of refugees] next year and he's informed his team that he would like them to accept, at least make preparations to accept at least 10,000 Syrian refuges in the next fiscal year," Earnest said.
Earnest added that Washington was on track to bring in some 1,500 Syrian refugees by the current fiscal year's end this month.
