RIGA (Sputnik) – The Latvian fishing industry could lose up to $225 million because of seafood import bans to Russia, Latvian Agricultural Minister Jānis Dūklavs said Wednesday.
“The entire fishing industry will not come to a standstill because of the ban, but the size of losses could reach 100 to 200 million euros,” Dūklavs said.
On June 4, Russia’s agricultural watchdog implemented a ban on the import of seafood from Latvia and Estonia over constant sanitary issues during inspections, as well as the seafood containing harmful additives prohibited in Russia.
