DPR Insists December 12 Earliest Time for Contact Group Meeting
DONETSK, December 15 (Sputnik) — The next round of Ukraine reconciliation talks should be preceded by a video linkup between the Kiev government and eastern Ukraine, a senior negotiator representing the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) said Monday.

"It would be useful to hold a Skype conference first, and then determine the date [of the Minsk reconciliation talks]," Denis Pushilin, a DPR negotiator at the reconciliation talks, said at a briefing.

"I have no information about the date [of the future talks], neither does the envoy of Luhansk," he said.

Over 4,600 people have died as a result of an internal conflict in Ukraine, where Kiev forces launched a military operation against independence supporters in the southeast earlier this year, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has informed. - Sputnik International

The latest round of reconciliation talks were expected to kick off in Minsk on December 11, however they have been pushed back because of the need for additional preparations. Media reports have suggested that the tentative rescheduled date for the Minsk talks could be December 19.

Back in September, a Contact Group meeting on the Ukrainian crisis settlement led to a ceasefire agreement between Kiev forces and the independence supporters of Ukraine's eastern regions. However, the warring sides have since accused each other of violating the truce.

On Monday, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said that from the time the ceasefire agreement came into effect in September until December 12, 1,357 people were registered dead.
